Make Your Own Vanilla Extract with Reigncane Vodka

Creating your own vanilla extract is straightforward and produces a rich, high-quality result. Using Reigncane Vodka as the base provides a clean, neutral spirit that allows the full vanilla profile to develop.

What You’ll Need:

  • 1 bottle of Reigncane Vodka (750 ml or 1L)
  • 1 pack of vanilla beans (or less if your bean weight is over 3.3 lbs)
    Optional: use two packs for a double-fold extract

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Beans
    Split each vanilla bean lengthwise to expose the seeds.
  2. Combine
    Place the beans into the vodka bottle. Cut them if needed to fully submerge.
  3. Seal and Shake
    Close tightly and shake well.
  4. Infuse
    Store in a cool, dark place
  • 6–8 weeks: light, early extract
  • 3–6 months: standard strength
  • 6–12 months: fully developed flavor
  1. Agitate Occasionally
    Shake every few days during the first couple of months.

Notes:

  • This bean-to-alcohol ratio closely aligns with U.S. Food and Drug Administration guidelines for pure vanilla extract.
  • Official FDA definition:
    • “Vanilla extract is the solution in aqueous ethyl alcohol of the sapid and odorous principles extractable from vanilla beans… the content of ethyl alcohol is not less than 35 percent by volume.”
  • The FDA standard is based on alcohol content and bean concentration, not infusion time.
  • Industry standard (1-fold extract):
    13.35 oz vanilla beans per gallon of alcohol at a minimum of 35% ABV
